Governance and structure:

The Initiative operates as a partnership of the institutions that are signatories to its Charter. They are referred to as Sponsors.
The Initiative is governed under three decision-making bodies:
- The Governing Board, being the highest decision-making body of the Initiative, determines its strategy and provides oversight for all its activities;
- An Advisory Committee develops strategies for approval by the Governing Board, provides ongoing guidance and implementation capacity for the day-to-day activities of the Initiative and generally supports the activities of the Secretariat;
- The Secretariat, led by an Executive Secretary, is responsible for the day to day operations of the Initiative. The Secretariat is hosted by German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) on behalf of the BMZ.
